# Customer data deletion (GDPR)

> Delete a contact and their tickets when a customer asks you to remove their data.

Delete a contact in Chatarmin CX to remove that person's profile and their support history from your workspace. Use this when someone exercises a GDPR or privacy deletion right.

## When to use it

* A customer emails asking to delete their data or close their account
* You need to remove duplicate contacts and all tickets tied to the wrong person
* Legal or privacy review confirms the contact should be erased from cx

<Warning>
  Deletion is permanent. You cannot restore the contact, their tickets, or their messages after you confirm.
</Warning>

## What gets removed

Deleting a contact removes:

* The contact profile, identifiers (email, phone, WhatsApp, and so on), tags, and custom contact fields
* All tickets and messages linked to that contact in cx
* Related contact data such as CSAT responses and spam-list entries tied to that person

Some linked records in other systems may only be unlinked, not erased. Connected shops, marketing tools, or ERPs can still hold copies until you delete or update them there.

  </Step>
</Steps>

## Best practices

* Confirm the requester's identity before you delete — match email, order number, or another identifier the customer provided.
* Keep a short internal note of the request date and what you deleted, outside cx if your process requires an audit trail.
* If the person also exists in Shopify, Klaviyo, or another integration, check whether you must delete or update them there separately.
* Restrict **Delete contacts** to teammates who handle privacy requests. See [Roles and permissions](/settings/roles-and-permissions).

## Troubleshooting

**I do not see Delete**

Check **Settings** → **Permissions**, or [open permissions](https://armin.cx/app/_/settings/permissions). The role needs **Delete contacts** enabled under Contacts.

**The customer has more than one contact record**

Search for duplicates by email or phone. Merge contacts from the contact profile when the same person was split across records, or delete each duplicate you no longer need.

**Data still appears in an external tool**

cx deletion does not automatically purge third-party systems. Remove or update the customer in each connected integration that stores their data.
